The Western Victorian Community Alliance is leading the fight against the ill-conceived and dangerous high-voltage transmission projects planned for Western Victoria, including the Western Renewables Link.
We are committed to securing a better, safer solution—one that protects our communities, agriculture, and environment while reducing the catastrophic risks these projects pose.
THE THREAT TO REGIONAL VICTORIA (THE PROBLEM)
The Victorian State Government is pushing forward with a reckless plan to construct 630km of high-voltage transmission lines, spanning from Sydenham, in Melbourne’s west, to Bulgana near Ararat (the Western Renewables Link) and further north to Dinawan in New South Wales (the VNI West Project).
If approved, this project will see 1,600 massive towers—each as tall as the MCG light towers—cutting through farms, forests, and communities.
To make way for these powerlines, land that has been in families for generations will be forcibly acquired, tearing apart regional communities for an outdated, overhead transmission system that:
✅ Increases bushfire risk
✅ Destroys prime agricultural land
✅ Threatens native wildlife and habitats
✅ Is vulnerable to storms and high winds
✅ Scars the landscape and devalues property
This project cannot proceed without State Government approval.

THE DEVASTATING CONSEQUENCES OF LABOR’S TOWERS (THE IMPACT)
If the Victorian State Government forces through this disastrous project:
Bushfire risk will soar – Overhead powerlines ignited some of the deadliest Black Saturday bushfires. This project puts regional communities in the firing line.
Victoria’s precious natural landscapes will be torn apart – These towers will cut through Werribee Gorge, Wombat State Park, Brisbane Ranges National Park, Lerderderg Gorge, and Creswick Regional Park, devastating native habitats and wildlife.
Property values will plummet – Homes and farms that families have built over generations will be devalued, forcing many to bear financial ruin.
Prime agricultural land will be lost forever – The very land that feeds Australia will be sacrificed for an outdated and unnecessary overhead transmission network.
Regional communities will suffer – The amenity, livability, and wellbeing of tens of thousands of Victorians will be permanently damaged.
We must act now to protect our land, homes, and future. STOP LABOR’S TOWERS.
A SMARTER, SAFER FUTURE FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY (THE SOLOUTION)
The Western Victorian Community Alliance supports renewable energy and the need to connect Western Victoria’s green power to the rest of the state.
But the current plan—massive overhead transmission lines and sprawling terminal stations—is reckless, outdated, and will scar our landscapes forever.
Overhead transmission is unsafe, inefficient, and a threat to communities.
Yet, the people of Western Victoria have been told there is no alternative—that these towers are inevitable. This is simply not true.
We demand better. Stop Labor’s Towers calls on the State and Federal Governments to:
- Commit to genuine, transparent consultation with impacted communities.
- Conduct an independent review of alternative solutions, including existing easements and undergrounding.
- Invest in modern, safer, and more efficient technology.
- Deliver the project in a way that protects communities, farmland, and the environment.
A smarter solution is possible. Together, we can force them to listen.
